Historical signs of Montello
Montello, where the earth is red – brown in colour and roughly, 20 x 6 km of land that escalates into the trevigiana planes between Piave and the Eastern Venetian Pre-alps. Towards the end of the 1800’s the area remained completely desolated and uninhabited. The “Serenissima” Republic of Venice profited by chopping down trees in the Montello wood to make use of the wood in particular the chestnuts practically used to build the foundations of Venice, and thus prohibiting the entrance of the mountain folk. After the descent of the Serenissma, eventually bestowing the property of Montello to public authorities. In 1892, Bertolini emanated a law that divided the land into various plots, assigning and selling it to the population many already inhabitants of the area.

The "Piciol Monte" regrettably became famous for the harsh world war I battles, between the Italians and Austro-Hungarians, totally demolishing and wiping out the “Abbazia (abbey) di Sant'Eustachio” and the “Certosa”. A monument recently built for the late troops who struggled in the war, which is worth visiting, situated a stones throw from the farm house, well-known for its “ossario” (charnel house) and “sacello di Francesco Baracca” 2km from the site.
